Having won the first Test against South Africa comprehensively, England went into the New Year Test at Cape Town with their noses ahead. The Proteas are known to fight back hard from tough situations, and nothing different was expected of them at Newlands.

SA vs ENG 1st Test: England needed less than an hour to wrap up the Durban Test, and go 1-0 up in what is expected to be a close contest against South Africa -- the first time they have won the opening match of an overseas series in a decade.

In the days leading up to the Durban Test, there had been plenty of talk about the future of AB de Villiers in international cricket, given the amount of burden he has been carrying. Following the decision to ask de Villiers to keep wickets in Tests again in spite of his obvious dislike to do so, murmurs have only grown stronger.

After the first two days of the Durban Test, there was no clear winner as both South Africa and England fought tooth and nail to grab the advantage. It was on day three that the visitors finally pulled ahead with a solid all-round show.

As South Africa take on England in the Boxing Day Test at Durban, they will be encountered by an unfamiliar feeling. This will be their first Test since the 3-0 drubbing in India.
